Giant Freshwater Stingray
Up until recently fishing for the Stingray was reserved for the privaleged few, but Thai Fishing Trip has gained exclusive access to a spot on the Bang Pakong River system where we are virtually gauranteed to hook up with one of these Freshwater Goliaths. Trolling at Fishing World
Fishing World is one of the largest bodies of water that can be fished near to Bangkok. Although Fishing World can be targeted from the fishing bungalows, it can prove a difficult water to tackle unless you have a boat! You enter Fishing World via it's restaurant on stilts where you can look over the side into the water at record size Pacu, Java Barb and many more species, before climbing onto our small trolling boat. Becuase of Fishing Worlds rural setting and its size, and afternoons trolling followed by a meal at the restuarant makes for a stark contrast to the hectic pace of Bangkok

Why am I doing this?

When I brought up the idea of this thai fishing guide, many in my profession questioned why I would expose the methods used to get the best results when fishing thailand. It's simple: I am only one person, and I can't possibly take everyone fishing! But I can help others who are looking to go fishing in Thailand on their own.

I remember when I first started learning about fishing in Thailand over 5 years ago. I knew NOTHING. But, I was fortunate enough to work in an environment where I was able to learn new ideas and methods. Fishing Thailand was and still is fascinating to me. So, with my employer's blessings, I started to learn everything I could about fishing in thailand.

First, I started by joining any forum about fishing in Thailand that I could. I did a TON of reading for about 6 months, and I was always too intimidated to ask any questions. HOW STUPID WAS THAT?!

As you will come to learn, there are many generous people who visit the forums (And I provide a list of the essential forums you should be a member of), and are extremely helpful in offering tips and advice.



No one would actually share their actual "Methods" or "Techniques" that they used to catch lots of fish for their clients. Thus, a mysterious shroud of secrecy surrounds the fishing in Thailand. It seems that they wanted to help a newbie, but not let them look "in their tacklebox" to see what really happens to make their clients successful.

So Much For That!

Siamese Giant Carp

The Siamese Giant Carp is many carp anglers dream catch. With weights known to exceed 150kg/330LB, this species has been named by some as “The mother of all Carp”. In July 2007 Bungsamran’s lake record was smashed once again with a 120kg+/264LB+ specimen caught by one of the local guides, the first time this fish has been seen since it was stocked some 23yrs ago. There are several thousand Siamese Carp in Bungsamran, and a large number of these exceed the 46kg/100LB mark. Where else in the world can you stand a realistic chance of hooking into a 46kg/100LB+ Carp?

Giant Mekong Catfish

The Giant Mekong Catfish well known throughout South East Asia as a great freshwater sport fish, it will offer the angler an incredible battle even on heavy game fishing gear. For the local angler this fish is targeted for the western equivalent of match fishing, with competitions in many fishing parks for the most fish caught, but also for the heaviest or closest to a particular weight. The western angler though will likely see this species once again as an opportunity to take a 100LB specimen or personal best, which is very possible if not likely within the context of a weeks fishing holiday, but if you’re a match fisherman, then perhaps you might like the challenge of catching 500KG of fish or over a 1000LB of fish in a single day? Once again this is entirely possible at Bungsamran.

Bungsamran currently holds 12 IGFA World Records, but perhaps more importantly, Bungsamran is proud to be the venue that produces more “personal bests” in terms of an anglers biggest fish or most fish caught by number or weight in a single days fishing, than probably any other venue in the world. The average size of the Catfish in Bungsamran are 15kg to 25kg, with the largest specimens exceeding 185kg/407LB.
